As you can see, Amos is a handsome guy with white highlights around his eyes and mouth. He's very laid-back and friendly and marches back and forth while he marks you as his own. He will gladly come and sit with you, as he always enjoys a visitor. Lately he has taken to jumping right into your arms when you open the door to his cage and will let you just carry him around, so content is he just to be held!

Amos came to the shelter as a stray, but we estimate his age at 3-4 years. He is already neutered and ready to make you his for good!

Kato Is Looking for a Good Home

Kato is such a nice boy! When he saw his dinner arriving at the shelter, he didn't bark - instead he did a 'happy dance'. Now, due to the size of the kennel, it was a small one - two hops back, one across the rear, and two hops forward, but it was clearly a happy dance!

Kato is approximately 7 years old, and he is too thin, weighing in at 66.7 pounds. He has some hair loss as well - this boy needs some high quality, consistent nutrition to make his coat shine! And it's a handsome coat too - red/tan. Kato has a docked tail which he wags vigorously. If good food, fresh water, and a comfy bed don't help his coat, hypothyroidism would need to be ruled out (daily meds just like a person).

Kato's previous owners have released him because "he won't stay in their yard". So he'll need leash walking or a fenced yard to play in. And he loves to play! He knows how to sit, and he gets along with everyone (but not cats). He walks well on a leash, and likes to ride in the car too.

Come and meet Kato - he's a wonderful boy in need of a home where he can be a full member of his family - you'll love this boy!

Kato is currently at Frederick County Animal Control, located at 1832 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21702. (301) 600-1546. PRESS 0 WHEN YOU BEGIN TO HEAR THE RECORDING TO AVOID THE PHONE TREE. Pet ID:11-2579

Rose Is Looking for a Good Home

Rose is a spayed female terrier mix - she's such a doll! She is estimated to be between 5 and 7 years of age and is slightly thin weighing 17 lbs, 11 1/2 ozs. As you can see, she's black with white on her face, chin, chest & belly. Her tail is fluffy. Her ears are pointed and cute.

Rose is so cute - she's pigeon toed in her hind legs and bowlegged in the front. She snorts a bit , and is being treated for sinus congestion and a mild cough. Her teeth have mild tartar on the molars. Ears are clean and eyes are clear. Rose was previously owned, but given up because they were moving. According to her previous owner she does not get along with other cats and dogs.

Rose is housebroken.. She likes to go for walks and rides well in cars. She is friendly and alert. She was shaking some when we met, she doesn't know why she's here in our noisy shelter. What a dear, sweet girl.

Honey Needs a Good Home

Honey is a sweet female Terrier mix. She's estimated to be between 8 & 10 years of age. She's thin and weighed in at only 12 pounds 10 1/2 ounces. She's black with some white specks on her head and chest.

Honey is sweet but needs a little TCL, as you can see. She has hair loss between her eyes and on her right hip and her nose is very dry, and cracked. It looks so sore-poor girl. She needs high quality consistent nutrition for a few weeks to make her coat (and poor nose) shine!

She is also being treated for mild ear infections. She has bilateral luxating patellas. Honey tries to speak to get attention, but her voice is hoarse. After all of these setbacks, she is still cheerful.

Honey is housebroken, gives kisses, and likes to play hide. She is friendly and enjoys going for walks. If you have room in your home and heart please come see how sweet Honey is!

Lucky Needs a Good Home

Lucky is a wonderful golden yellow loving lab. He is slightly underweight, weighing in at 69 pounds. He is just barely 10 years old, but you'd think he was 6 - he's so cheerful and spry!

Lucky was released by his previous owner because "he won't stay in electric fence". Lucky has lived with that family for his entire life, so that's sad that they gave him away.

Lucky likes to play fetch (of course he does!), and he knows all his basics, like sit, stay, come, and down. He walks well on a leash, and likes to ride in the car. He gets along with everyone, and seems to have no bad habits, only good ones! He just needs a house with a fenced yard, that's all!

Lucky has a very nice nature - he would be an asset to any home - don't you have a Lucky sized hole in your heart? He'd be happy to fill it - come and meet him today!

Hansel and Gretel are Looking for Home

Hansel and Gretel are quite the travelling pair! Remember the fairy tale where the two children were lost in the woods? Well, that's the tale (tail?!) of these two wanderers as well. Hansel and Gretel arrived as strays on 11/7/10. We know that they are smart, because they managed to survive on the streets. They arrived with dirty ears (they're clean now), and fleas and ticks galore (yuck - removed); they are up to date on their vaccinations and their monthly flea and tick preventative).

Gretel (here on left) is approximately 6 to 8 years old and she weighs in at 22.3 pounds. She had an ingrown nail that had become infected, so she's been on an antibiotic for 7 days - poor girl, each step must have been very painful. She also has some pendicular mammary growths; they will need to be removed and biopsied when she goes to her forever home as per our vet's examination.

Hansel (the male) is approximately 2 to 3 years old, and he weighs in at 23.4 pounds. When Gretel went for her walk, Hansel was fine with being left behind, as he had just returned from a walk himself - he was distracted by meeting all the various visitors coming by on Saturday morning!

Both dogs are friendly with long waggy tails. These two travellers need a loving home to call their own. They are sweet and cheerful, making the best of living in a shelter (they actually seem quite grateful for their comfy beds, fresh water, and consistent nutrition)! Do come and meet them today, they need and deserve a loving home environment.

Hansel(Pet ID:11-2337) and Gretel (Pet ID:11-2336) are currently at Frederick County Animal Control, located at 1832 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21702. (301) 600-1546. PRESS 0 WHEN YOU BEGIN TO HEAR THE RECORDING TO AVOID THE PHONE TREE.

Jinx Needs a Good Home

Don't let this name keep you away. Super-cute Jinx is such a happy girl with a constant purr and head rubs for everyone and everything! She's got bright green eyes in a pretty round face and the softest gray fur imaginable with just the tiniest white dot on her chest. She's definitely built for snuggling, and with her ebullient personality you can't help but want to do just that!

Jinx was surrendered to the shelter due to allergies. Her former family describes her as a lap cat, and they say that she uses a scratching post/pad. She has lived with dogs and other cats, as well as older children.

Jinx is between 8 and 9 years old, and already spayed. Why not make her the newest member of your family just in time to warm your home for the holidays?

The Gift of Companionship

This holiday season, consider the gift of 4-legged companionship - either for yourself or a loved one. It's a gift that can last a long time and provide so much affection and unconditional love. There are so many pets needing a loving home. Whether you go to the local shelter or find a rescue organization specializing in the type of pet you want, do take a look - there's one out there waiting for you.

For those who live alone, having a warm, animate being living with them can be great company and comfort. If you decide to give a pet to a loved one, do make sure a pet is something they would love, appreciate, and can care for. Take the time to determine what type of pet would be good. While adorable, a puppy or even a kitten might not be the best choice for a senior citizen, depending on their health, where they live, and other factors. While I personally think a pet is a great gift, that's not the case for everyone. Unfortunately, frequently after the holidays are over, pets are returned to shelters, or, even worse, let loose to wander and fend for themselves. But for animal lovers, it might be one of the best gifts they ever received.

Adopt Mohabi, a Gray Domestic Cat

Mohabi, formerly known as Eeyore, is a laid back purr factory who loves belly rubs. This snuggle puss is happy to be held or to cuddle up in your lap.

Mohabi originally came to the shelter with the name Eeyore, when the landlord told his family that they had to get rid of some of their cats. He was adopted, and lived with that family for about 1 1/2 years. Unfortunately, he was recently returned (now named Mohabi) when his family moved. They did write that he is the "purrfect cat! Very loving and loves to play and cuddle. Wish we didn't have to give him up." So now Mohabi is hoping that the third time's the charm and he will finally find a permanent home this time around.

Mohabi is about 3 years old, and already neutered. He has lived with kids, from newborn to teens, and many other cats. He loves to chase string and the laser point, and uses a scratching post/pad.

Please help us find a home for Mohabi. He's currently at Frederick County Animal Control, located at 1832 Rosemont Ave., Frederick, MD 21702. (301) 600-1546. PRESS 0 WHEN YOU BEGIN TO HEAR THE RECORDING TO AVOID THE PHONE TREE. Pet ID:11-1931
